Guy Martin's merlin engine

Just seen the half hr programme on Guy Martin & almost spat my coffee out when he told of starting his merlin engine up at work & revving it to almost peak revs & the thing lifting off the ground in the workshop & the carnage it caused.....great entertainment for all us blokes cussing at being cocooned at home (& the weather being crap for those without 4x4s).

That's so cool! Were you worried at first that she might not run? Took a while to fire up, but when she did.....sweet Jesus!
What's the story behind your ownership matey?
A little too much wine saw me buy my first Meteor from eBay. There followed another 5 from various sources. One is now sold and others will be over the next 6 months.
However, one (the one you saw in the video) is going in a 1936 Rolls Royce Phantom III to create a special I am building.

I was wondering if I might have driven something with your motor in it, but then I saw that it'd not run since '88. I only got my paws on Centurions in '89 and '90. I much preferred the Chieftain AVLB/AVRE from a driving perspective. Centurion AVRE was too much like hard work.
I have only had the engines for about 18 months and have only demonstrated one locally, so no.
I have started to commission some components for those that wish to use these engines (the market is a world wide one!). The original R/H valve cover has mountings for the generator and oil filter which are rather ugly. Most people want the top of the engine to look more like a Merlin. I am commissioning the casting of new one's.
I am also getting exhaust manifold plates laser cut from stainless steel. These will enable others to build their own exhaust rather than use the massive cast iron original.
I will be sorting electronic ignition utilising the existing magnetos.
For my own engine I am planning to use 12 BMW M3 throttle bodies with fuel injection. This and the electronic ignition should provide me with a driveable car, and maybe, better fuel economy.
You could say that I am trying to make this little hobby pay for itself!
