thought I'd have a look at what they would offer for my L405

£61K for a less than two year old car with 15K miles and loads of extra's - they priced on reg number!

if I could buy 'my car' for that price I'd buy them by the dozen and make a great living

who the hell sells them cars because obviously people do as they are still trading?

Personally I don't think they deal with a lot of high end stuff. What they offer 15-20% below retail? That's a lot on expensive cars, but a £5-10k vehicle the numbers may not seem too bad. Hey, ever heard of a broke car dealer......not a cracker joke btw hehe

They offered me 2k more than BINI did when I sold my Disco 4. As I was in the middle of moving house I didn't have time for tyre kickers so snapped their hand off. However, getting the funds transferred and clearing the outstanding finance wasn't quite the quick and painless process the adverts would have you believe. Would I use them again? Maybe, all comes down to price really.

I assume you have some idea of what they should have offered ?

I found when I punched in my wife's disco 4, they offered c£28k against a franchise retail sale of proably early to mid £30s - which I thought was decent, considering it targets easy, quick trade buy.....I think I would have been lucky to get £31k private sale.

So a 10% discount to genuine private sale and about 12.5% on retail sales (once warrenty, prep cost taken into consideration)

Surely you didn't expect anywhere near the retail price did you? How or why would you expect that to be the case?

You take the hit on the price for a simple sale. I'd say your car isn't their target market either so no wonder they bid you lower.

For more 'mainstream' cars I have heard examples of them offering more than some dealers have done for part ex.

You'd probably last 5mins before you succumbed to test pilots, tyre kickers and people telling you how much the car is really worth as they tested out We Buy Any Car. .com. And that's before you then got the people who think they have money but don't in reality.

I'm not a car dealer. And sometimes think their margins seem quite wide. But there's no way I'd want to deal in cars at this (or frankly any) end of the market due to the people you'd have to deal with day in, day out to make sufficient sales to make a decent living.

of course not, but say £70K would have given them a very healthy profit margin

also one would have thought they would ask about 'extra's' that make all the difference to cars in this price range

I used to sell secondhand high end fishing tackle as a 'hobby' - I know its a very different price range but I have never before encountered so many chancers/liars and bloody thieves, lol!

I recently sold my D4 HSE on the Disco forum, the advert was free and the car went within a week for £34.5k. I had 3 responses from decent, genuine folk and can't recommend the site enough, full of enthusiasts so why not give it a go.
