Not planning on it, just asking. There are loads of LS conversions and because of this, the LSx seems to command high used prices. The 1UZ-FE is a similar size to the RV8, lighter and can be tuned to achieve good HP, especially with FI. It is also very cheap used.

Just wondered what the experience modders think/ know?

Hasn't it got relatively massive cylinder heads with overhead cams? If memory serves me correctly, which of course it may not do, it's a wider angle V. I've a vague recollection of idly looking at replacing the RV8 in my Disco with one, but it's too wide to fit easily without extensive modification to the body/chassis.

Why I'd want one in a tatty old Discovery is another question entirely, and not really worthy of discussion, other than 'because why not?'. smile

Yes, I reckon it's too wide, and it's not very cheap to tune, not compared to an LS, look at the price of this stroker kit!

No expert on this but from what I've read on the cobra club forum you'd probably have to end up using an automatic gearbox since options for manual would be limited...

I can't vouch for accuracy of course. There are adapter plates for the Tremec and the R154 manual transmission. 6 bolt mains and all the usual bits available like forged conrods and pistons etc. Sure, there isn't the same following as the LS. The on the 1UZ may foul the chassis?

Ford 302 bolts up to the tvr t5's gearbox and is narrow enough to route exhaust down the side

This is the easiest conversion you could do IMO

Strokes to 347 although I think the 331 is the most popular, 500bhp N/A at the fly shouldn't be hard

If that's the one in the LS I can vouch for that. I owned a 1990 LS400 for six years.
My favourite party trick was to balance a pound coin on its edge on the plenum with the engine on idle, and rev to 6000 rpm. Coin never fell over.

If you want gearbox options with regard to adaptors etc. then look at Dellow auto in Sydney ; I recently sold a complete kit of theirs which included flywheel, bellhousing and clutch assembly for a 1uzfe to a w58 Toyota box. Dellows had a good online catalogue.

Be a fun project without all the IVA garbage in this country, preventing you from getting a non Q plate.

Rover 230 kg, Lexus 390 lbs, which is about 177 kg I think you will find.

Would it hit the chassis at the wrong points Simon? On paper, it looks smaller than the RV8.

Anything can be done, I had a friend in the process of fitting one to his MX-5... just because he could, and do it on the cheap. I believe he could get an adaptor bell housing to mate up to whichever manual box he was going for.

He never finished it as he emigrated to Canada :-(

Ow? so a 302 Ford bolt straight up to the Chimaera or Griffith gearbox?
how about the engine mounts, do they come close?
would be interesting such conversion with the exhaust headers going down, saves some length and a lot heat.
I believe there are also aluminium 302 Ford engines? but I guess such modern 302 like the coyote or so will not fit? or are all 302 the same were it comes to the gearbox connection holes.
Or is the modern say Coyote to wide?

also some nice info here>

They are a lovely engine, without the OE autobox you will need to run an aftermarket ECU apparently but plenty of choice.

Australia appears to be the source for all goodies relating to this engine
