georgefreeman's R32 build thread...
Discussion
So, nearly 11 months into R32 ownership, I thought it was about time to start a build thread, also coinciding this with my first modification.
Throughout my ownership, the car has performed faultlessly. The R32 was a replacement for my 2005 Nissan 350z GT. Although the 350z was a great car, I wanted something more rounded and capable of been used for a variety of tasks in all conditions, without losing the power and performance. The R32 with its 250bhp (ish) V6 and 4WD built onto a VW Golf shell would be the perfect compromise.
A trip to Dove House Motor Company in Northampton in January confirmed my initial thoughts and the car I was viewing was the perfect example. It also included a substantial list of modifications that I would have intended to do anyway. I did have concerns that I might have preferred a DSG box, however this R32 ticked all the boxes, that I never drove a DSG.
A deposit was left and a number of other potential interested buyers were contacted by the dealer to pass on the unfortunate news that it had been sold. After some signatures were signed, I left and would be making the trip from York first thing in the morning to collect.
And so that is how the R32 story began.
Spec list and modifications mentioned above include;
2008 DPB VW Golf R32
Miltek stainless steel exhaust system
KW V3 coil overs
H&R front and rear ARB
Goodridge braided brake hoses
Pioneer head unit with iPod connectivity

Hoping to get about in it throughout 2015 so will possibility see some of you around. Cheers

Yesterday I had a quick run across to a snowy Huddersfield to collect a gloss carbon Osir splitter. Again the R32 caused no problems. Where other front wheel drive cars were having issues the R was not phased by anything that was thrown at it.
I pushed on through the ice this morning in order to get it fitted. Quick and easy to fit, and the perfect shape to enhance the front end.

Luckily the previous owner had as much OCD as I do! So it came that clean and I'm just keeping on top of it.

It's a lovely car.
But having read at the start about your jap car ownership I was a little dissapoonted it was a Golf!
Enjoy the car, will follow the build!
I'm always slightly disappointed when I see R32 in the title and discover a Golf in the thread But having read at the start about your jap car ownership I was a little dissapoonted it was a Golf!

Anyway, nice car OP, tasteful mods too by the looks of things.

Sorry guys! Il be sure to amend the title so there's no future confusion. Unfortunately I am now converted to German car manufacturers although I wouldn't say no to R34.

Cracking choice there mate.
Tornado Red MK5 R Owner here. must agree that its a cracking all rounder and very capable in ice conditions as I found out over the weekend!
Is that milltek a res or non res? I fitted a non res on mine just before xmas. Crikey its loud lol.
Thanks. It is a resonated Miltek. It was already fitted when I purchased the car, although I have considered going non res. There is a thread on R32OC.com with a debate regarding which is best. Some have said that the non res can be quite droney? I'm on the R32OC too and read every thread I could about exhaust opinions before diving into mine.Mines a Lucifer catback non res box, with Milltek GT100 tips. Lucifer is a member of the OC who sells exact replicas of the milltek boxes for a fraction of the price.
I did a quick review of my exhaust, see here http://www.r32oc.com/topic/150986-review-lucifers-...
all in all I would say go for it- you only need to buy the non resonated pipe as you have the rear box already fitted. if you don't like it after a few weeks, fit your resonated section back on and you'll be able to sell the non res pipe easily enough on the OC! (PM Lucifer as he also does the non res pipes?)

So it's finally arrived! I would like at this point to say that I "received some over night parts from Japan" but in reality I've been waiting 3 weeks for this kit to arrive from Prestige Performance Car Centre. It is the Simota MkV carbon fibre induction kit, including filter, piping and carbon cover which also helps with air flow. I also believe that these are quite hard to come by. I was in two minds whether to get this or the Gruppe M, which is even harder to come by, but also carries a hefty premium above the Simota offering.

Box looks a bit old school, but all of the contents are packaged very well with numerous bubble and paper wrap, particular attention paid to the carbon cover.
I have taken some Interior and exterior videos of the car under acceleration, so will be taking more when this kit is fitted - hopefully the weekend! Upon getting the kit out of the box it seems to be built with exceptional quality. The carbon weave across the cover is perfect, and the chrome piping has some very neat welds. The kit also includes all the screws/bolts and brackets needed for installation as well as fitting instructions. The instructions are a little dissapointing, in the sense that they are that clear, and there has being the typical translation issues. For example " attach to another side silicon tube".

Anyway enough talking, I'll let the pictures do the talking. Will be posting a full review including fitting instructions over the next week with sounds comparisons versus a standard air box with resonated Miltek.
