so how do you value these cars ?
Discussion
Ive been tempted by something and considering selling/swapping the VXR8 at the mo. Its NOT for sale as such so more a question than anything else.
57 pate LS2 manual in Impulse blue with 52k on the clock. FULL Vx service history with last one done around 1k ago.
newish front discs and pads
recent peddars lowering springs (FULL geo done at the same time)
new top mounts
new front lower arms
wheels refurb'd although couple of small chips now
Walkinshaw Performance cat back
gutted stock cats
K&N panel filter
Ls7 clutch and remote bleed 7k ago
Full front end refresh to cure stone chips in July.
Gold carbon Hydro dipped side vents, bonnet trim and spoiler uprights.
Would I be selling myself short at 14k ?

I would say you're definitely selling yourself short, I suppose it depends how fast you need to sell it on, at that price it will probably fly. I would have thought maybe £15500 ?
To be fair 15k would be more where I would like to be but as a car enthusiast I know how much can be lost on a car
As Im not actually selling but have been offered something tempting which just got the gears turning a little lol

What does Emma think about you selling the car out from under her?
She's OK, as the replacement IF I get it would be more of a daily for her than the VXR8 is. It was just something I am considering, not really even remotely thought of selling till a mate put his car up. I then thought 'damn thats a lot cheaper than I expected' which then got me thinking. No doubt the R8 will be going nowhere, just thinking aloud for now.

14.5k! That's cheap especially as it's in a very rare colour. Apart from some rough ones I'd say prices have gone up or at the very least stabilised. If someone's interested they will pay more for a good car, I did and I know others have too.
Remember with a DD you will suffer degradation from stone chips, bumps in car parks etc etc so as nice as it may be you will have to work hard to keep it as clean as you like your cars.

This is exactly the reason Im considering a change. The car I've been offered has bottomed out on price now so no matter how many miles we do or how much it gets used I cant really lose. The VXR8 on the other hand is in such decent condition I don't like driving it just for the sake of it. We have a Sharan as the daily wrecker but that's probably got one MOT max left in it before I scrap it. We also have a twin turbo Mitsubishi GTO each we drive once a month if that, and a van.
I sold a 1991 GTO with 8700 miles on the clock to buy the VXR8 as I could never drive it too keep the mileage down (I did 1.5 miles in it !!). I now think I kind of done a similar thing with the VXR8 as in I never really use it. We've done 7K in it but most of that was in a trip to Paris and then cornwall and a few other long trips.
His car would probably be sold anyways so doubt anything will come of this.

sorry but its the middle of winter, cold icy roads, rear wheel drive "sports" car and rare colour or not there were 3-4 blue 57 plates that changed hands in the last 12-18 months for around the 12k mark. Its a 7 year old imported car with a list of common problems - look at the list of parts you fitted. Really dont get how people think they are worth so much more. When the 2009 6.2 models were sold off for 22k by vauxhall and yet you still get daydreamers thinking they're worth 20-21k now. You get 14k for it then you've probably done quite nicely out of it

They are fast, they are different, they are rare, they don't offend anyone like a german cars can so they will likely hold their value for a decent one. I got offered 19k by a dealer for mine and I turned it down, had it been 20 Id have taken it and gone for a GTS so the money's there for the right cars.
I would say @ 14K you are on the button with no offers , clean car
Its easy for others to say I think its worth X but that is usually going off how they value their own & not the private market place
Still a good time to sell as they are thin on the ground
A dealer would prob expect 16/17k with the usual toilet roll warranty
