Out of interest - is the 991 GT3 the same as the 997 GT3 in not having any underseal?

I don't think that any of the GT series cars have had the normal Porsche full underbody rust protection treatment... They might have been given a lightweight sealant, but the long term bodywork guarantee is also a lot shorter than normal IIRC.

Was it all2ofme (?) that did a mini series on the underbody corrosion and retreatment required to his 996 a few years back? I always hosed the underneath of my 7.1 off after driving on salted roads asap, after reading that.

Yes, that was a scary read. As a result I ask for my 996 GT3 to be inspected each time it's serviced and up on the ramp. Also, the car is in storage till end of Feb. so that I resist the urge to drive it in winter. A bit sad, I cannot believe most 991 GT3 owners would be prepared to make this sacrifice!

Be very aware of salt on gt cars, they rust like anthing as does all the alloys start corroding.
Mine does not go out in the salt, and gets a clean down every year with duck oil.
If you are a short term owner,it does not matter!

Why no rust proofing?

It can't add much weight or cost surely.

Wow! No rust protection on a £100k car. Scary for anyone except the most committed track day driver.

I'm sure all2ofme or another will be along with some specifics, but I don't think they're all that bad with some sensible precautions. They're still e-dipped at the factory and most of the underside is covered in plastic panels. I'm no expert but would think the most vulnerable spots would be the around the rear wheel arches where there aren't any wheel arch liners. But those areas are easily washable.

And no doubt you've got the comparable statistics for all the previous versions of the GT3...

So a meaningless claim then, as I suspected.

Pretty well known that all GT3 variants have been "relatively high" in terms of number of owners, during the first 3-5 years. Mine was surprisingly low at only 2 by year 3 and assuming the person that purchased it 12 months ago (who has made at least £5k on it eek) still has it, it will now still only be only 4 at 7 years old, which is pretty unusual?

Its the same with most cars - finance deal finished over 3 years move on to the next one. Happening less now though as cars become more reliable and punters not willing to take the depreciation they have accepted in the past.

So now you're simply claiming that the 991 GT3 will be no different than previous versions in this regard?

I certainly wouldn't dispute that.

It's extremely tedious when the same suspects feel compelled to troll each and every 991 GT3 thread to make claims about the car and its owners (compared to previous versions) - "...next shiny new trinket.." etc

Exactly! So nohing different worth noting about the 991 version compared to previous versions, despite what others might claim or seek to imply...

So you might expect the 991 GT3 to have the same or fewer owners than previous GT3s, despite what some might claim..?!
