Ok it's the season of being really bored, and therefore my question is:-

Why are indicators Orange on the outside but Green on the dashboard?

Because it is different to red and white outside, making it more noticeable,and on inside it is green as it is a good thing, not a red/yellow warning of imminent doom at a guess

I think on the dash yellow is used as a warning, red as a serious warning.

Orange would might be too close to red/yellow, hence green.

Just guessing though.

Because of the dashboard colour system

Green = Good / working
Orange = Something broke, you should probably check that
Red = Stop immediately to prevent damage.

I think that's because they were LEDs and blue LEDs hadn't been invented back then.

I'm pretty sure the dash lights were orange on my dad's Mk1 Cortina.

They were white on the front of my first car, orange on the rear, just saying like, to be different.

Also red on the rear in the US (on some models).

My old Chevy Camaro had white indicators on the front and did that Yankee routine where the brake light doubles as an indicator on the rear. So if you're braking and indicating at the same time you got a solid red light on one side and a flasher on the other. The things that looked like repeaters on the front wings came on with the lights and didn't flash at all with the indicators. But WERE orange.

Bloody thing looked like a mobile disco at night (and a big banana in the day) but despite being in my early 20s and driving a whole list of Construction and Use Fails I never got pulled once in two years of ownership.
