Union Flag on your new licence.

Ooh, I can feel the nationalistic pride swelling within me as type. Or it could be wind.

Anyway, Autocar clicky to read about how new and replacement driving licenses will feature a Union Flag from summer next year.
It makes me cherish and covet my ancient paper pre-ID Licence even more.

I don't get the hate for displaying the Union Flag or St George's Cross.

Anyway, I would have thought this is less about "nationalistic pride" and more about making it easier to quickly identify which country the driving licence originates from now more and more people are driving abroad - and more foreigners are driving around in this country too.

The letters "UK" don't do that far more quickly and reliably?

Applies in Scotland, England & Wales, not NI.

Imagine it'll be pretty unpopular with many in Scotland and Wales. Personally I'd rather have the flags of each country, but not so much I'd make a fuss about it.

For none too clear reasons NI has always issued its own licences (I think there's an agency called DVLNI for it, might be wrong). For all too clear reasons, I severely doubt that this development will be rolled out there.
