Gents,

Not going to lie - I'm pretty sure I managed to leave the lights on over night. I'm sorry, but I just can't blame the cold for this one...

Is there any chance someone could PM me the "secret method" of gaining access to the boot, happy to provide evidence in the form of embarrassing pictures of me standing awkwardly next to the car parked in my parents' driveway.

Having spoken with the other blokes from Herts&Beds I've got a good idea of where to start...(getting cryptic now)...but when I started I had to quickly stop because I couldn't find the thingy that I should've found in the place that I was looking...

No not really, but my thanks to those who have offered many suggestions via PM on how to get into the main area of the vehicle - but the boot still eludes me.

As my trickle charger is in the boot it would save me a lot of hassle if I didn't have to use jumper leads on the battery in the passenger foot well.

Have you got in the cabin even if you can't open the boot.

Open the bonnet and put the jumpers to the alternator, this will allow you to open the boot with ignition on [just don't try and start it or your 100a fuse wont be too clever].

Thanks all for your help, I bit the bullet and just borrowed my parents car to jump start it via the battery in the cabin. I'm still keen to get the magic boot method solved - but now that I at least have the boot open and the trickle charger doing its work I can look into installing the magic method.

I keep my little 12v tickler in the stowage flap behind the passenger seat... I figured that that would juice things enough to open the boot pretty swiftly if I needed to get in there.

If you are not using that bit of stowage space, perhaps claim it as trickle charger space... My medi-kit is in the drivers side with my extinguisher on the floor behind drivers seat. Trust me, you'll only need the latter two items once to have them handy in all your vehicles!!
