Dangerous driver on mobile

M4 J8/9 joining to go West towards Reading around 9:45 this morning. Caught up with a young guy in a dark blue/black Focus on hand to his ear, talking on the phone. He looked a bit wobbly around the roundabout, and was driving slowly down the outside lane of the sliproad so I was watching he didn't do something stupid in front of me. A dozen other cars followed by me undertook him. He then picked up a sheet of paper and started reading it while on the phone and trying to joing the M4. He was actually swerving across lanes, then back half a lane. All the traffic avoided him luckily. I was now in lane 1 at around 60mph watching this guy in my mirror. He caught me up, I was watching him carefully and he suddenly swerved to pass me and nearly took a bunch more cars out (still on phone with paperwork on steering wheel). I let him past and got behind with the main beams on. All of a sudden he was mr polite, hands on wheel, facing forwards, no eye contact. What a complete arse. I just passed him and went off on my way.

Why do people do this? He wasn't just not looking he was swerving dangerously.

Agreed, so lets ban paper as well. Or just impose a fine if you are caught which is the trend.

It wasn't a point as such..just that it's obvious that phones don't kill, just the use of them whilst driving can often lead to distraction...

I was on the motorway this morning, and got overtaken by a white astra van.

My speed was constant and caught him up as he had slowed down in the middle lane......he was reading a newspaper at 80mph, and it was a full size paper, not just a tabloid
