Hi. I haven't been on for a very long time.

Can anyone advice on the best exhaust system for increased power and sound on my PDK Boxster S Gen 2. I have found 2 so far. IPE and Miltech.

Bit of a mind field.

Wishing you all a happy new year

Check out what Gert at Carnewal has to offer. http://www.carnewal.com/Exhaust

He has been used extensively by Porsche owners and with pleasing results.

I have just fitted an IPE system and it truly is an awesome bit of kit, both sound wise and build quality. The Porsche Indy that fitted it said it is the best sounding exhaust they have ever fitted.
Love the valvetronic option too, best of both worlds

+ another for Gert Carnewal. Just had his 987gt fitted to my 987.2 3.4s pdk. Pussycat up to 3500rpm, which is what you need for civilised mway cruising with no resonance. 3500 upwards it is awesome - much like a GT3. Even the guys at Autofarm, who fitted it, were impressed.
Not expensive either. Gert delivered me the exhaust, ready to fit, for circa 1100 euros, with a 500 refund when you send your exhaust back to him. He then modifies that and sells on.
He removes the rear cats, works some other magic, bingo. Guarantees no problems with mot emissions also.
Declared it to my insurers. No problem, no extra premium.
IMHO not worth paying akrapovic etc prices unless you seriously need another 5bhp - and do you? Really?

I have an IPE on my 987.2 BS, as well as the 200-cell sportcats from Gert. The valve on the IPE is wired into the original PSE button so everything looks and feels standard, but it sounds anything but. Quiet mode is about like PSE being on. Loud mode is serious though not totally antisocial imo.

The main thing I would recommend is having the car remapped after any exhaust changes. The sound will be the same but it is this that really makes the car go faster. My dyno charts said a total gain of only 15hp (from 305 to 320), but the torque curve has shifted left so the car picks up much more quickly (with the exhaust open anyway).

Good luck!

Hi All

Thank you for all the information. I think to be safe i will just go for the IPE cat's only for now. this will give me a bit of sound and small power gain with a remap. Without the Cat's and with just the remap I'm pushing 319BHP.

Any thoughts on just the IPE Cat..

DMS in Southampton have looked after my Boxster S Gen 2 and so far not let me down so will use them for the Cat change.

When my IPE manifolds were fitted on my 09 Cayman a couple of the bolts snapped (as did several on my 986 Boxster), thankfully this time they were removed without any drilling but still took a total of 6 hours to do so please allow a possible hefty labour charge when you have yours done.
Personally I don't think you will get that much of a noise change by just changing the manifolds/cats only, I would start with a cat back system which will give you a definite change in noise and a small power gain as you are still improving the flow as you will be losing the secondary cats that are in the OEM back box

The IPE manifolds are a work of art, very high quality but with a very high price tag, mine cost £1200 + £300 labour. My local IPE stockist quoted £2k + £500 to fit, lucky for me I found a dealer with a set on the shelf from a cancelled order.

I'm not sure I would have gone IPE if I had only been changing manifolds as its a huge amount of money for just a few extra horses. I bought them as I already had the IPE cat back system so was thinking when time comes to sell the car I would have a FULL IPE system to sell afterwards or with the car. Also that it would match up perfectly when being fitted.
