I'm considering a few options tonight, one of which is ignoring everyone else and just going for a drive before midnight to a hill with a nice view.

Just curious if any of you have done this before and if there's much traffic about?

I guess it's a question of where the hill is

If it's in London near Trafalgar Square then it may be a bit busy....

They're dead, save the bits around a pub - often the drinkers will spill out to celebrate in the streets.

They will be cold and wet. I'd just stay in and save it for the summer.

Dunno about midnight NYE but I went out to watch the sun rise on 01/01/2000 and the roads were totally empty.

Now there's a thought smile

Good point about avoiding pubs! And location is Essex.

Are there any hills with a view in Essex?

Yes many. I have one in mind with a great view of much of the city.

You can get a reasonable view over Docklands / The City from the top of York Hill in Loughton on a clear night.

Will be busy though as the Gardener's Arms is at the top of the hill and the best view is from their little seating area!!

They'll all be empty as everyone else has friends and will be being sociable, drinking and generally having merry times.

I used to go out every New Year's Day first thing in the morning, quietest roads of the year. Just remember the odd farmer's tractor will still be out there (depending where you live obviously).
Tomorrow's weather won't be up to it though.

Shame you don't drive a cab, you could make a fortune tonight.
