Can anyone explain why this Omega Speedmaster is so cheap?

£778 for the watch at current rates, plus a likely customs charge, so around a grand.

I'm looking at getting myself a secondhand one of these in the next year or so, and seems to be about £500 cheaper than UK based secondhand examples. As an example, I saw a battered second hand one in a jewellers on the weekend for £1500, which i thought was chancing it.

Has anyone bought from the likes of sellers like this? If I'm honest, it would be a watch to keep forever, so I'm not hugely fussed about papers or boxes, as long as the item is genuine and working well.

Apologies if you are already aware of this, but that is the "reduced" not the full size professional. This may account for the price difference - if you weren't aware you may not be comparing like with like.

This is about the right price for this watch, its not the moon watch, but as mentioned above the reduced size. the movement is also different, not the sought after manual wind.

reduced speedmaster, and auto (harder/expensive to service I believe due to a quirk with this particular movement).

No apologies needed, I wasn't aware of the reduced version, hence my gradual research. I have large wrists, so small is out of the question.

I suspect 95% of people who start looking into buying a Speedmaster Pro go through your learning experience smile

It isn't particularly small either, at 39mm. It certainly isn't the most desirable Speedy though.

No, 39mm will suit many people, but if you see them side by side it looks surprisingly small.

Maybe it's because the Professional doesn't look big for its 42mm?

The reduced model is still quite thick, so wears quite large.

The pro is wider, so doesn't look as chunky.

I've my "reduced" speedmaster for approx. 12 years now, approx. £800 new...... at the time it looked big, and the full size looked enormous....... but then larger watches became fashionable.....

the reduced size still doesn't look too out of place size wise today, when you compare it to a lot of the watches commonly available at the time.

part of me wishes I had bought the full size, but at the time it would have looked severely out of place on my narrow wrists...... if I were buying today I wouldn't think twice.

Full service cost £165 with Steve Burrage at Ryte Time, excellent service and as has been said, for those of use with smaller wrists it's the ideal size.
