Weird experience with "The Car People"
Discussion
This is just sales patter generally. Had the same deal with furniture salesmen recently. I don't like it, but you let them get on with it and ultimately if you don't like the deal you say no. You're just another prospect to them, they're just going through the motions with you as they would with everyone else. It's the way things are. They just want you to buy or f**k off as quickly as possible.

Car Supermarkets sell to three groups
1. the ignorant
2. the boderline bad credit bunch
3. the desperately need a car distress purchase who can't contemplate buying a shed while looking for the car they want
Things many have changed since I last used one, but they also cater to someone who wants to see a bunch of cars in one go, and not faf about driving from dealer to dealer seeing over priced crap.1. the ignorant
2. the boderline bad credit bunch
3. the desperately need a car distress purchase who can't contemplate buying a shed while looking for the car they want
When we bought the cars were all reasonably priced, and they had about 10 cars in stock. We went to see one car, but ended up buying a lower mileage car.
We bought cash and didn't take any of the other bulls
t they sell. The price was between most dealers, and private. They fixed a few bits of missing trim and I picked the car up 2 days later. The car has been faultless and supermarkets will be my first port of call when I need a newer family car.Know a few people who have bought white goods cars from them and had no issues.
Including a guy who's a pretty good friend. Commutes a decent distance every day and just uses his car has a work horse - a-b and nothing more.
Walked into Car people - asked the salesman to filter the cars on his system to diesel, lowest price & mileage. Picked the one at the top of the list and said "I'll have that one"
Salesman had to make him take it for a test drive.
Easiest sale he'll ever make.
It was a Kia Rio no less.

Well, what do you think? I'm obviously a lot more intelligent than their average customer, as I didn't fall for any of the tactics he was trying on. My question wasn't..."uhh, do all car sales people do this?" I know they do - but wanted to hear what experience other people specifically had with The Car People.I went in there expecting a lot more than I got...was hoping that "good customer service" still existed (especially from a firm which advertises it). I know car salesmen are s
ts, and I know all the tactics they use - just surprising it's as common as it is, as it's such a bad way to persuade people to part with their money IMO.(it works)

With your superior intelligence and knowing everything that you do, how come you didn't know what to expect?I went in there expecting a lot more than I got...was hoping that "good customer service" still existed (especially from a firm which advertises it). I know car salesmen are s

Come on, you can do better than that surely?I know what to expect, but was hoping for a better experience based on what I'd previously heard about them and seen in their advertising/marketing.
Obviously, I should be shot for that!

He makes bugger-all from just selling the car, especially if not at full screen price.
His money is in finance and bolt-ons.
If he sells you a car but none of the above, he might even end up losing money overall because of the way his commission is structured.
Daft, but there you go.
This. Paying cash means he will make nothing so why put any effort in. And he certainly won't sort you out discount as your not sorting him out with finance. His money is in finance and bolt-ons.

Doesn't really matter what business you attribute your experience to, to be fair. Sales people generally need the commission because the basic is dire....that being said, I'm a salesman myself ( different business ) and last January, I refused point blank to make follow up calls that the management insisted were " essential" to me in making the sale. I told them that until they had paid, ro put a deposit down, they were "my" prospective customer, and as soon as they had made the decision to buy, management can treat them how they wanted. I had a record month. Even my colleagues started to question my follow up process.......but it worked.I tried to avoid pressurising, and tried to use my experience and give people options, and make them comfortable with their decision.
Sadly the process of delivery from then-on went a little awry, and I changed jobs shortly after.
Sometimes management have an awful lot to answer for......but are rarely there to do the answering !!!
I suspect your experience is not at all unusual.
