Why inland launch sites are a bad idea

I thought that. As it is probably a common occurrence is the first stage fitted with some kind of parachute system to break it's fall (and not the locals)?

No.

As far as I know, no one has yet fitted a parachute system to a space launcher first stage yet - although NASA did conduct such tests in the 1960s.

The locals will be able to make some nice shacks and sheds out of it. Probably a fair swap for the odd flattened villager.
