A friend called me to say he had been caught 3 times whist driving to and from his new job (he a consultant in a hospital). Thing is he only received the first notice after he had been caught 3 times netting him a speed awareness coarse and 6 points.

Seems unfair does he have any recourse? If he had been stopped by a police officer he would of had the opportunity to adjust he's driving and avoid the points. Now he has 2hr commute on egg shells instead of having a clean licence.

'have' you can't 'of' anything.

What's unfair? modifying your driving style and sticking within the speed limit is not conditional on you having been on a speed awareness course. Its just bad luck, most of us speed some of the time & largely get away with it, other times speeding at the wrong place/time lands you a fine & points.

Its worth making the point but he can only do that in court. Was he caught in a fixed camera site?

Definitely someone else's fault.

I should of elaborated 3x by the same spot by the same fix speed camera over a few days he'd rack up all 3 by the time any notices arrived . It was a 30mph road from national speed limit I think he said he was caught 42/36/38.

Perhaps he needs to see the ophthalmology department?

I do agree that it is someone's fault that he got caught speeding three times. But he needs to look in the mirror to see whom.

Wow didn't know Piston heads have become a gamma school, it's changed since I was last active oh well; welcome to the internet where everyone is friendly.

Anyway he said he was travelling back at night after a 12hour days so I guess he didn't notice. He was already resigned to getting the point but I told him I'd ask in this friendly place for motorists, but if there's no room for leniency then he'll have to deal with it.

Leniency ? Unfortunately not. Unless there were fundamental procedural or evidential flaws with any of the incidents which might prove fatal to any attempted prosecution, then the minimum damage is likely to be achieved by taking the course and swallowing the other 6 points, I'm afraid.

He doesn't need to drive in any specifically overcautious way, just needs to pat attention to speed camera signs and limits.

Three times?

And what if he hadn't noticed someone stepping into the road? Or that bike?

If he is too tired to drive, then I think he needs to find an alternative method of getting to and/or from work.

Hope he's a better Consultant than he appears to be as a driver.

To pass /ignore the same speed camera three times is a bit daft and there really is no excuse - unless he can try to claim being called out to an emergency each time.

Jesus Christ.

The minimum time to get NIP is 14 days. If he managed somehow to blitz the same camera three times in as many days then there are another two in the post?

What recourse do(does) you (he) think should be present?

Happy new (probably slower) year.

A few years ago I got caught by two different cameras on the same day on the same long distance trip. When the letters hit the mat my first thought was they'd sent two letters by mistake but no two seperate locations. 3 points for one and a speed awareness course for the other. No excuse at all poor observation on my part for both the speed limits and the cameras.

My uncle was pinged several times travelling to visit his terminally ill father over a short period. The tickets started turning up a couple of days after he lost his dad.

Pleded mitigating circumstances. Didn't get very far I'm afraid.

Maximum, not minimum - for the RK, anyway.
