Hi all, I'm looking for some new driving / racing games but I'm into the more realistic ones. Arcade racers frustrate me; I prefer the likes of Forza to NFS etc. and was one of the people who moaned about the new GTA V driving physics.

I like "consequences" (e.g. crippling damage) for silly driving, rather than a game where you can win a race by ramming through the other competitors or bouncing off barriers if you don't slow down enough for the corners. I have a gaming PC and XBox 360 at present but could do with some new material!

Bearing that in mind, what do you think will suit me? Thanks in advance! cool

yes

Prior to getting my own Android device, I always thought games on tablets were restricted to naff stuff like Angry Birds, that Smurf thing, that jewel thing and running games. I was surprised that you can actually get decent games that rival Gran Turismo and WoW. Yet to find a Battlefield equivalent that's decent, though.

I've been sim racing since 1991, the best I've tried so far in terms of realism IMO is Assetto Corsa.

http://www.assettocorsa.net/en/

iRacing is very good and I was a member for several years but recently let my subscription lapse as I used AC more.

iRacing is fine but restricts to an incar camera, which I think is stupid beyond words. Unless you're using an Oculus Rift, it just doesn't work.

Assetto Corsa is pretty much there on the physics, and a load more fun.

If you're on a console;

Xbox360 - Race Pro
PS3 - GT6
PS4 / XBox One - Project Cars.

Bear in mind you'll want a wheel. I think the G27 is the happy medium between cost and quality. But that'll only work with the PS3 or PC.

Don't forget, PC sims are incredible but will drive you fking insane because they're like delicate flowers. Think 2 hours config for 20 minutes driving.

Most of what you've written is complete rubbish. Iracing forcing an incar view makes complete sense in a simulator. Assetto Corsa is nowhere near in physics or competition in racing. It does look pretty though and on Steam sale has been half price. The Ai are flawed and it is lacking in features and feel through the controls compared to iracing

iracing. Ignore the comment about pc gaming taking 2 hours to setup for a 20min race. Utter tosh.

I find AC to be very realistic, I've heard very good things from people who would know too.

Personally I find there is way to much grip and far too easy to recover when you get out of shape.

I don't believe it to be as realistic as iracing but it is still enjoyable, just not as realism based in my opinion. This is discussed at length in various parts of the Internet, I don't want to turn this into a realism only battle. It's worth noting iracing is a monthly subscription service and you have to buy most cars/tracks (this can be a negative) but I feel the experience and competition is unmatched in any other racing sim. I don't think directly they offer exactly the same thing, owning both is no bad thing.

There's always Euro Truck Simulator, which can be had for £2.24 at the moment in the Steam sale.

Quoted as I've reported you for this post. Shame you're incapable of intelligent discussion.

ETS2 is a good shout for cheap fun too!

Slightly left field, but I will throw Game Stock Car into the ring (Around £20, PC): http://game-stockcar.com.br/?lang=en

It is based on the rFactor engine (gMotor), so the game feels similar. The UI has been revamped though, and the graphics have had a upgrade as well - They look a lot sharper that your usual rFactor. The cars feel fantastic, it has a good selection to choose from as well; from the V8 Stock Cars (Brazil touring car type things, similar to DTM), Mini Coopers, to single seaters like F3 and Formula Vee. There are also Karts in there to. There will be something you would like driving. The tracks are all 95% Brazilian, so will take some learning which is all part of the fun! The AI are brilliant on the tracks as well, this did leave rFactor lacking when it came to single player races but there is no such problems here. It does have mods as well, but I won't be touching these as the stock content is that good.

So yeah, in short, well worth it for me!

EDIT: If you need a wheel, then PC World have been selling G27 for around £150 I think. A steal at that price, normally around £220. Won't work with your 360 mind.

Im amazed anyone used a view other than cockpit. I'm absolutely useless in any other view. Feels so weird!

Yeah. I tend to go for bumper cam or bonnet cam. The problem with cockpit view is that if the speedo and rev counter are just artwork ie don't move then it bugs me. And certain games don't site you on one side of the car even if the graphics show you to be sitting in the driver's seat ie it still deals with collision detection as if you're in the middle which makes really tight manoeuvres difficult to judge. And sometimes games change the sound so it sounds muffled even if you're in a race car.
