Finally over it......

It's over two years since I sold my GT3. At first I missed it like Hell, followed the forums and looked forward to the day I got another 911. As time went by, I was less sad and quite enjoyed the financial savings I was making not running a GT3 or, indeed, any form of 911.
My 55CLK was/is a trusty workhorse, goes adequately fast and makes a lot of the right noises. It is actually quite fun too, once you get the hang of it, which took me a while. It is also remarkably cheap to maintain, having cost about 75% less to run over the two years I have had it than the GT3 would have done (and that's without any unexpected issues).
Today I looked at my copy of Porsche Post and chuckled at the cost of a 964 or 993RS, then looked at all the expensive things you can do to a 911 and read the, sometimes anguished, reports from register secretaries and the like. Don't get me wrong; if you offered me a free 911 for the next few years I would say yes please, but as for putting my own money into one, not a chance nowadays. Silly price to buy, silly money to keep in top condition, and if you use it, you damage the resale value.
So, that's it then. I have seen the light and got out. This is the first time I have been on here for about six weeks and I haven't been bothered at all.
Mind you, I have taken up the guitar and this is not without it's similarities......

Interesting you refer to the financial savings you have made by selling......and yet most incarnations of GT3 have probably been one of the best car investments over the past few years......
I'm not so sure though. 2 years @ £2K plus a contingency of, say, £500; set of tyres @ £800.00; insurance @ £600 for 2 years so £1200; another 12K miles so add a conservative £1K for lost growth and you have £7500. I've not factored in petrol as there's nothing in it between the two cars.My CLK has cost me a quarter of that in two years, includinga a big sort out when it was new (to me) and a set of tyres.
I can't actually remember what the GT3 went for - not enough I know - but it would have needed around 25% growth in the period to recover the extra cost. So maybe I would have had two years free motoring but I would not have realised that without selling it.
The one I should not have sold was the 964 Celebration which I saw at the Silverstone Historic a couple of years ago. The bloke who bought it (a while after I sold it) paid more for it than I had some eight years previously.........
I was once as keen as everyone else but a couple of years without a 911 has been very refreshing. s
t, I have been able to pay all my bills and even have money left over which is a novelty. And the lure of a lovely Joe Bonamassa Les Paul is quite strong.kbooker said:

I'd be surprised if you could find a UK RHD in good condition for much less and it's only going to get more ?? Other newer models have done much more so it's only time before the MK1 catches up and I suspect it's values have largely been kept down due to such small numbers changing hands. They'll blossom soon.And the thing is, you don't actually realise any growth until you sell it anyway....................
I guess I'm on the other side of the fence though having bought mine at a similar time to you selling.
