any idea who one performs 'due diligence' on such a car - it's quite miley for such a rare and special car, just need to check out it's past.

That car looks a bit familiar. I think it's owned by a chap who has quite a few other cars, member of the rennteam board (futch) if it's the car I'm thinking of and I would guess given the rest of the cars he has, that one has been driven a decent amount but will be very well taken care of.

I have a contact at Toyota / Lexus that helps with these if you are seriously considering buying it . I think they are cracking cars .

He was very helpful when I was looking into the LFA a couple of months back.

There were at that time much cheaper cars in the US, and Lexus GB said they were able to help organise inspection via Lexus US. From memory though the mods to bring to UK (fog lights, satnav, radio) were not straightforward and Lexus GB pointed me to Macari for those.

What put me off were the potentially astronomical parts prices, eg damper 42k should you ever need a new one. Amazing machines though, without a doubt. It is said each one cost around $1m to build.

Christ alive, perhaps I best have a rethink ! many thanks for the replies, I will have to have a serious chat with myself before going to see the car so that I don't get carried away. As you say, they are amazing cars.

Are we talking a single damper here or the complete set with all the no doubt associated electronics ?

I actually test drove one (a standard LFA mind) and was close to purchasing but was worried about residuals and decided against it...it would appear I might have made a mistake there!

£10k! And try finding the correct tyres....as they were launched with bespoke Bridgestone tyres.........and we though getting hold of Countach tyres was hard........

The 959's wheels were hollow-spoke, center-lock, and made of magnesium. They featured an electronic tyre pressure monitoring system, the first of its type on a passenger car—and would mate only with Bridgestone's RE71 Denloc tires, one of the world's first self-supporting run-flats.

I recall motoring journalists at the time remarking on the high cost of a replacement wheel if damaged or stolen. I think I read somewhere not so long ago that they're now only about $5000 each from Porsche?

Saw this car yesterday - awesome in person.

If someone is interested in the car and needs the chassis number to do their due dilligence, let me know.

I was just reading this thread and thought I'd browse the Joe Macari site. Started just before 9pm, when at 9 BBC2 started broadcasting "Supercars v Used Cars: The Trade Off", featuring..... Lo and behold, their site has crashed!

6k miles? thats almost still new. The blue Lexus UK car has circa 60k & has been ragged to inch of life for most of it & still works as new.

Can anyone add any colour to this issue of the potentially ruinous running costs?
This is a car that I look at occasionally when I think of changing to just one car I don't get to drive instead of having a few cars sitting mostly idle but fk me gently!!!! - I had no idea the potential costs of running one would be anything like that!?!?!?!?!?

You'd always expect a bit of a sting on parts for something that has a lot of bespoke components but that seems ridiculous.

Edit : found a parts price list and it seems it is erring on the comedy side of expensive.

So £6k for a front shock, crazy but not the 42K suggested above.
