Never really listened to much Beach Boys before, but at the inlaws and it's on - quite loud!
Apart from being good 60's pop to throw a few festive shapes at, nearly every song seems to be not only about cars, but actually quite PHer type stuff.

maybe this is a bit like a new ABBA fan pointing out to the world that the blonde one is quite fit!
I knew the Beach Boys but have never really listened to the the lyrics much.
Maybe I'm half cut, but they didn't half do some brilliant songs!

They were just cashing in on the surf/hot rod culture of the time, they weren't actually part of it. Dennis Wilson was the only surfer in the group, and probably the only one with an interest in the culture for a while (he also acted the role of the 'mechanic' in the cult road movie Two Lane Blacktop).
Plenty of other hot rod music from the time by those that were into it to listen to as well.
