Thinking of painting my engine before putting it back in the car, what colours would people suggest?

What were they as delivered?
My memory of Capris etc from back then is faded a bit now, but IIRC the Essex engines were not painted except for black rocker covers and perhaps heads. The timing covers and inlet manifold were just alloy... Am I right?

TIA

From memory Ford engines at time were black.

Genuine factory recons were blue, spark plugs, oil filter, everything!

IIRC my old 3000s Turbo was a red wine colour. Certainly the plenum was that colour but I think the block was also.

A sort of Broadspeed colour would make sense?

I think I would have to mod it a bit and put a plenum on the carb before going there......smile

Still, quite tempted by a Turbo at the moment.... Just need my numbers to come up...

It might have been when you had it Steve, but there isn't much evidence of paint left on the block now! But the rocker covers and the plenum chamber cover are definitely Broadspeed red.

Dave,
i see you have been working hard on the engine, well done. I know off subject for the paint but what head gaskets did you use to stop them blowing again.
