About a week and a half ago i gave my diet a complete overhaul. Up until that point all i had been eating was take aways (mcdonalds, kfc, chinese etc) for a good 4 weeks during my xmas holidays. I also drank quite a bit, read that as a lot, of alochol in the space of 3 weeks, bearing in mind prior to that i had only drank on 3 other occasion during the whole of 2014. Physically it hasnt shown as im one of those 'lucky ones' that can eat what ever i want and put on hardly any weight however i cant say i felt all that healthy on the inside.

Rather than wait for the new year i started the new healthy eating regime last week. Im now eating more vegetables and fruit than i ever have, ive cut out all processed foods, taking in plenty of water along with daily supplements (vitamins etc).

The strange thing is is that im actually feeling worse than i did when i lived off fast food and burning the candle at both ends. Im having to force myself out of bed each day, feeling extremely sluggish, hardly any motivation and could pretty much go to sleep any time of the day.

Could all these negative feelings be from actual withdrawal from junk food or could it be something else?

Sugar and fats. Your body is craving quick calories. It takes a good few weeks to retrain yourself and rid yourself of your sugar and fat cravings. It gets worse before it gets better.

You are alcohol and sugar withdrawn by the sound of it (I don't believe you can get fat withdrawal symptoms). Have a boiled sweet or two and carry on. Two more weeks to go IME.

So long as you're still getting fats in (get healthy fats such as from oily fish) and cards lower in sugar you will get better, trust me.

It'll be withdrawal symptoms. Generally my diet is spot on but I have the occasional horrendous binge day (and I mean horrendous) but I'll do that once a month or so and then go back to no bad food at all. If it makes you feel any better for health reasons I've had to have a stomach peg fitted for the time being and I've literally had no food pass my mouth since November 31st (up until last week I didn't even have water, and even now it's small sips and most of my water intake is by the tube).... Trust me, I've had a few cravings! Still, I'm hopeful it's not forever!

Keep up the good work mate and trust me, it'll get better.

Mcdonalds is terrible for withdrawal, doing the very early van run a while ago sausage and egg mcmuffin meal was accessible and cheap, came off earlies and rejoined the human race, found myself spending £30-40 a week in Macy d's, took 2 weeks off from work, went to France, saw one mcdonalds the whole time we were there. Came back, craving gone!

There's a worse stuff going on with me at the moment. Just had major brain surgerynot having food down my throat is not my major concern right now! Of you have a spare couple of hours read the thread in health matters "what's wrong with me!?". It was started over a year ago so it'll take a while to read through. But it's quite fascinating of I may say so myself hehe

Don't want to detract from the ops thread.

If you're sluggish you need more fat to compensate for the lack of carbs (sugar). Eat plenty of nuts/oily fish/avacardo's for a while. Make sure you're getting enough complex carbs (wholegrain) and that will level off your blood sugar levels.

Bit of an update on this.

Its been about 4 weeks now and i can honestly say ive never felt better.

I dont know if its a direct result from the healthy eating but my sleeping has improved massively. between 6-8 hours a night uninterrupted, awake just before the alarm each morning feeling fully awake, constant energy through out the day, skin feels and looks healthier and just over all general well being improvement.

I even turned down an offer of a mcdonalds the other day as just the thought of all that grease turned my stomach.

So yeah, as someone that has always thought healthy eating was over rated i can safely say that the benefits are very much worth it.
