Happy new year everyone.
What is available to use to check the quality of water in the cooling system?
I may have done a school boy error and put screen wash in the rad. Was the same colour. Uppps.

Antifreeze Hydrometer…

To be honest though it is probably easier to just drop the coolant and pour a gallon of antifreeze in the cooling system.

How much went in?

Are there lots of bubbles when you take the rad cap off?

Think Dollyman's got the best idea, drain, flush, refill smile

Yeh, think a drain is in order and get some new coolant.
Any recommendations for new coolant?

Anything other than screen wash.
Ethylene glycol has been around for many many years, is cheap by the gallon and mixed with water 50 50 works fine..

you can spend hundreds on a waterless coolant if you wish but I see little point. Its just a lot of expense with a lot of hype.

Come to think of it..Halfords sells about 6 different kinds of scented screen wash these days…More marketing hype..

You could probably just add antifreeze to whats already in your coolant system, screen wash is essentially very similar to antifreeze, if anything less toxic, It certainly won't harm anything in your engine.

Just get some cheap comma antifreeze from your local auto factors. the latest marketing hype is Oat technology apparently….I have that with my ready break in the mornings.

You would be surprised. I asked for 'carburettor cleaner' in Halfords last week, the guy looked dazed and mumbled something about 'jet wash' and ambled off round the back with a gait like some limp rag. I then saw the cleaner on the shelf and had to hang around waiting for him to come back so he didnt think I had disappeared. He returned empty handed and kind of stared into space when I explained I had found it so I said 'you didnt know what carb cleaner was did you' and he said no he had never heard of it, was it to do with onions?

Onions??? WTF

So to avoid a surreal discussion with a pansy just go to a small motor factor they need supporting.
