Tyre pressure on a Defender?

Any ideas? I've been told 48psi but that sounds quite high?

Depends on the tyre, weight and situation...

FWIW - When I'm on a trip, I'll run 45psi front & 60psi rear (Michelin XZL 7.50R16).

In the book for a 110 it's 30 front and 48 rear. I was running lower after a chair to a garage at the rear and ruined the handling.
