'What TV' help would be appreciated...!
Discussion
Hello all, any chance of some Telly buying help..?
Right, so a couple of months ago I removed our really nice 47" Panny from the wall without disconnecting the aerial - as a consequence I ripped the socket from the back of the telly - bummer - and have had to solder a new connection to the exposed metal where the old female socket went. As you can imagine Freeview choices are now somewhat limited, although weirdly our HD channels are consistently brilliant...(?)
So we're after a new Telly... requirements are thus;
1. Needs to have Freesat and Freeview - we have no Sky or any other connections to this TV so Freesat is essential, we have our old Sky dish and my feeling is that Freesat will be slightly more reliable than Freeview with obligatory dodgy loft aerial...
2. Needs to be DNLA compliant as we have around 5tb of server content
3. Needs to have lots of online options, iPlayer and stuff - this seems to bounce Panasonic as although they have Freesat TV's, they seem to have way less on demand stuff than Samsung who have ITV Player, 4OD etc.
4. USB storage to external HDD would be great
Not overly fussed about massive sizes, something between 47 and 50 would be perfect. My search at the moment seems to lead to Samsung, but would appreciate some pointers!
Seems I can get something decent from Richer Sounds or JL (5 year warranty!) for around £750 - but then there's 4k which takes me to £1200 ish!
Thoughts anyone?!
Thanks

I've just bought the current Panasonic 40" 4K TV from John Lewis for £600. The 48" version was £900 I believe. It includes Freetime which combines iPlayer, ITVPlayer, 4OD etc and works really well, although the ITV, 4OD, Demand5 are not included on the Apps page - you just scroll back through the schedule and pick the program from there.
We've only had it a couple of days, and only plugged in an ariel and bought a licence today, but so far I'm impressed. It replaced a Wii playing iPlayer on a 15YO CRT TV so I don't suppose it would take much to impress me...
