Best Country to hire car for 20 year old & explore?
Discussion
Morning all!
Strange topic i know, but bare with me...
Start of the year and me and my GF are looking to plan our yearly holiday. Last year we drove to Paris and a little around France and we really enjoyed it and would like to do something similar.
However, we dont fancy the drive from Liverpool down to Folkestone for the train (Plus now i drive an rx8 and would either cost £2m in fuel or would blow up...thought id say it before anyone else does).
So we are now exploring just hiring a car when we arrive at our destination. Problem being im only 20 and i know how difficult it is in this country to hire a car when under 25.
Basically im after a bit of help on the best country for:
- Hiring a car at this age
- exploring by car. ie plenty of sights nice road etc
We have had a quick look at Italy (GF choice) but unsure on hiring cars age.
Any help greatly appreciated!

Croatia
I drove there in 2013 (big write up in the road trip thread) but flew and hired in 2010 when I was 20.
Great smooth roads, great coastline and islands to explore (Hvar, Brac, Pag etc.), clear seas for snorkeling with some nice beaches (Zlatni Rat) and historical towns (split, Zadar etc) and lake dominated national parks (plitvice, Krka)
There is a good bar in most places and beer is cheap, if you like clubbing the bigger towns have bits in them and you may be able to time your trip to a music festival (hideout) if its your thing. Our accommodation was <£15 per night for a studio apartment in one of the better towns on an island (Bol, Brac).
Ryanair fly to most of the cities cheaply and you can hire cars from there
