We are setting up a bike hire business. The principal focus will be on leisure as opposed to commuting / work use. I am in the bike business and have access to all types of bikes - from Raleigh Mollis to Haibike Nduro Pros. Does anyone have any views on what works / doesn't work when taking families away on hols (UK) and what they might look for in the bikes they hire ? Any feedback gratefully received !
Reliability. Gears and brakes that work. Be prepared to spend a long time in a workshop or paying someone to keep them maintained. It staggers me how often I rid epast someone on my commute as they go clicky-clicky-clicky..... For some reason its fine if its their bike but they would expect a hire bike to come with the gears aligned!!
One question I have though is where are the bikes located, are they at your location or at the holiday venue? If its the former, I assume I order them on line and you send them to me then I send them back when I return which sounds like a lot of hassle when there will most likely be bikes available at my hoiliday destination.
To be honest most people either dont care about cycling that much and have some old BSOs they keep in the shed and talk away on the annual family holiday or they already have a nice bike that they would take with them. Prime example is my neighbour and I. He is the former, I am the latter.

Thanks for that. We have a separate E-bike shop now as well and run 3 separate bike businesses. We will focus on our shop at Poundbury as the HQ as we have full workshop / mechanic up here. Logistics are always an issue of course - we will just have to run a very efficient booking system. Families down here tend to hire for 1-2 days so won't bring 4-5 bikes in their cars as there simply isn't room. We also specialise in Haibikes - allowing newcomers to experience e-MTBing around Dorset. Obviously hardcore MTB-ers will bring their own kit..not really our market !
