It could be a few things. But as you cannot hear the starter solenoid engage I would suggest possibly the immobiliser is faulty or the solenoid itself.
The Meta immobiliser fitted to my 96 500 isolates 3 circuits:
1.Starter motor
2.The fuel pump
3.The ignition system.
Easily checked by running a separate live feed to your solenoid with ignition ON. If it then starts it is the immobiliser that is faulty or its wiring. If it still does not start try live direct to the starter motor and see if that turns it over, this proves the starter is OK.
Best of luck!

Do you keep the TVR on a battery conditioner?
Just wondering if the battery has enough power if you were trying to start it for 10 minutes. When it was running did the alternator light go out - possibly a problem with the alternator or 100A fuse which meant that the battery wasn't charging when it was running.

How long since you last used it?
Not sure if there is a fuse in the starter motor circuit. Do you have the Steve Heath guide for the Griffith there are some tests you can do on the starter motor described in there that might help to narrow down the problem.
Have you checked that all the connections are firm on the starter motor?
