I bought the black 55 plate VXR advertised before Christmas on Ebay, which should be seen regularly from now on in the North Bristol area. Anyone with an Ebay account can see what I paid, if that helps those who are thinking of buying or selling one. To me, its a car that's worth every penny of what I paid (touch wood)!

One question. When pottering about town, do many of you use first gear?

How far North? I'm local smile

If yours is a standard car that will help with the insurance - any mods?

Close to Winterbourne. Mods are hi flow exhaust system, Road Response pak, Pedders lowered suspension kit. Secret with Direct Line is to get a quote on line, ticking no mods, then ring them and get them to update the quote for the mods you have. When I rang in without the online quote, they wanted ~£600!

For sure, it helps being 60!

Hello smile

I have a VXR8 as opposed to Monaro, but around town I tend to go 1st > 3rd > 5th if I am pootlling. Rarely pull away in 2nd as I dont see any need for any additional clutch wear. (Do so if on a slope obviously when you can still feed it in and achieve full drive with minimal slip)

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on the new purchase. You're no where near me haha I live in Aberdeen however for town driving I'm between 1st and 3rd sometimes 4th. If I want to make a lot of noise I tend to be 1st to 2nd for the burbling. smile

And I am near Upton Cheney.

And I seem to recall Kmud saying that one of the garages in Marshfiled looked after his car??

Marshfield is good for icecream smile

Infinity exhausts is sort of out that way, in Codrington. I have a garage just around the corner from me that I have used, but I'm tempted to talk to the driftworks people on the Warmley industrial estate, or the BMW specialist stigmund recommended (Redish?).

Infinity did a pretty decent job of the exhaust on my old 3.2 Vectra. I had them remove the centre box on the VXR8 but when Walkinshaw were doing some work on it later they said it hadn't been put back on properly so a mixed review from me. For general servicing stuff I use a garage called DCS in Brislington they always do an excellent job and Darren is a V8 owner himself albeit a 300c SRT8.

They did a great 3" exhaust for me on the V8 Landcruiser too. Good value for money and good work. Was thinking of asking them to look at some long tube headers for the Bathurst S.
