Race Licence

I would like to get some advice in regards to obtaining a race licence. Has anyone taken the ARDS National B test at Knockhill?

Hi,

I done it there a couple of years ago. It was good. You need to et the blue book from MSA, Knockhill should be able to provide one, I think that's about £50 - £60. The test itself was around £250, can't quite remember. It's split into two parts, part one a video on safety, a chat with the instructor and a written test. Part two, out in the car with the instructor who will mark you on car control etc...

I did mine there too in a chilly January. It's all straightforward and sensible stuff. Just be sure to actually read the books you are sent with the pack and learn the flags. There was a chap there in my group who thought he could just turn up and wing it but alas he could not.

Practical was in Knockhills car a Seat Leon Cupra if I remember correctly. Try to get a few track days done first if you haven't already, get familiar with the track.

The main purose of the ARDS test is to demonstrate you are safe to let out on the circuit with other racers, ie you know the flags, aren't going to endanger yourself and others, know what the basic ettiquette is etc. The ARDS Instructors at Knockhill (and the other tracks) are all Race License holders and have loads of experience and are able to instruct and assess. As others have said, when you get your pack from the MSA watch the DVD and read the stuff until you know and understand it. Don't be worrried about asking "dumb" questions of the instructors if you're unsure.
