Porsche 911 GT3 RS undisguised

No need to clean it or add the decals Porsche, just like this is fine

Things to expect on a car undergoing final testing: black paint? Check. A lot of road grime? Check. General sense of scruffiness? Everywhere.

But there's one thing that stands out in particular about this 991 RS test mule, and it isn't that wing. Spotted it yet? There's a child seat on the passenger's side. We don't know how, or why, but this is cool. With a cage in place of the rear seats the buggy needs to be small though. And what to take home next? A 918 Spyder?

Anyway, oddities of the Porsche test schedule aside, these pictures are significant as the first undisguised images of the new GT3 RS. And doesn't it look excellent? The RS additions are familiar now but they just work so well. A big wing and swollen rear arches on 911s always do the job on fast ones and that's no different here. In fact, seeing an RS without the inevitable stripes, stickers and whatever else will be thrown at the paint is quite nice. Note too the slight bubbles in the roof to make space for a race helmet. And you just know that dirt has been accrued through proper driving. Hopefully not with the baby on board though.

Other than the pictures there isn't any further new information on the RS yet. Visible through the driver's window are a 918-style steering wheel and a PDK selector. Although both RS versions of the 996 and the first 997 didn't have any additional power over the GT3, we would expect the 991 to follow the 997.2 with slightly more power. That car had 450hp, up from the GT3's 435. With the current GT3 making 475hp, somewhere around 500hp seems likely.

As for actually seeing the production GT3 RS, a Geneva debut in March would seem most likely. But then the Detroit show is imminent as well... More details as they're available.

I doubt the roof bumps are for added head room? Unless they have raised the profile of the roof pillars too. Looks more like a styling gimmick to me. A bit like the horrendous looking holes in rear 1/4 panels vomit

There was already a thread running on this so we've merged them to keep the chat in one place.

Cheers!

honestly, to me it doesn't look anything special at all ... not that im in the market for this kind of thing but it just seems a little bland (and I know that sounds barmy considering the arches and the wing) ... personally I think the Targa looks more special than this

If this was anything other than a Porsche, people would be calling that front bumper vile.

Hopefully that’s just some mesh hashed up behind a pre-production bumper, in lieu of something a litle more finished! Otherwise it looks good, though not a massive departure from a regular GT3.

It really needs an RS colour and and decals.

Doesn't every new Porsche have a 918-style steering wheel nowadays? I'm sure it'll impress fellow Cayenne drivers on the school run. Personally, I'd prefer Porsche to say "it's got a 964-style steering wheel and its only function is to steer, nothing else".

What model of child seat can you fit in a 918 bucket seat?

I obviously don't have a 918, but I have Recaro Pole Position seats in my car, which I believe are more or less the same width, and would love to install a child seat !

911 'Barry Boy' Edition vomit

I suspect this will make existing RS owners very happy as their residuals firm up even more.

Many years ago I had both a 964RS and a small child. The standard two-piece Porsche child seat fitted inside the Recaro Pole Position seat perfectly. I suspect the same seat or something similar is still available.

Hard to say definitively based on these photos, but looks-wise I much prefer the 'regular' GT3.

But then, I've always preferred narrow-body 911's.. 964 RS > 964 Turbo etc.

I'll just have a whole 964RS please. smile
