Woodhead Monroe Shock absorbers

Anyone know where I can get cclassic Woodhead Monroe Shock Absorbers for a 1961 Kit car?

I'm having trouble finding someone that sells them or repairs them

I assume you mean telescopic units and not lever arm dampers ?

In the late 80s I worked for a great company called L.E.Chapman Engineers, whose head office was in Syston, Leicester. We were the main distributors for Monroe but also did our own range of steering racks and rebuilt ( and uprated ) lever arm dampers. We supplied many of the well known TR tuning people.

Sadly I believe Chapmans ceased trading some years ago, but I think one of the engineers there started up on his own ??

If I'm correct (rare) this might help. It would seem that Monroe Woodhead became Girling Woodhead or am I reading it wrong (likely).

There are a pair of Woodheads for sale on Ebay but for a Matchless!

Monroe is now owned by Tennaco and still do shock absorbers under the Monroe name. If you get a few more details you will find something that will fit I am sure.

For what it is worth, Chapman built me struts for a '68 Cortina Twincam (mk2)for the 1993 London Sydney Marathon. Only used one set, they were excellent. Did bend one though & never noticed ! The spare inserts were put in a few years later.Wondered what happened to them as I needed some for the car when it was being prepared for a Panama to Alaska event.
