New lodger that came round yesterday afternoon - sensible middle aged consultant nurse, looked round the house, let me show her round the local area and everything just phoned the landlady to tell her that she is not moving in because she is scared of my snake that I have just given to a friend of mine so she will move in!!!!

She said that even knowing that it had been in the house was just too much for her!

I would have expected this from a numpty but not a well educated respectable person. I understand the phobia and whatever but WHY could she not have told me at the time instead of wasting my time and forcing me now to struggle to find the remaining rent

Look on the bright side, you can tell people that your snake is so impressive that it's been known to frighten women who wanted to live with you!

Maybe she thinks it could have laid some snake eggs hidden in a closet. MWAAHAHAHAHA
On the other hand, if it was truly some other reason and she's using the snake as an excuse.... well it's just as well that she's not there. You don't know what other problems she might have, and it's too much trouble to deal with someone who won't be straight forward.

I know there's money lost having it empty, but it's better to wait for a good tenant than end up with a nightmare that you have trouble getting rid of.

Yeah I guess. What galls me the most is the fact that I showed her round the area dna all sorts and shbe didnt have the decencey to tell me while I was even doing that!

Yeah, stringing someone along like that is rude. I can't figure out what people are thinking when they procrastinate on letting you know. I mean, it's not rude to say you're not interested, and it's worse to let someone go on and on just "to be polite".

When my parents were selling their boat, they'd get phone calls of "interested" buyers who wanted to look but would turn out to be no-shows. Some people would act really interested, and afterwards, when they've talked to you a few times and acted serious, you realize that they were just tourists who wanted a free boat ride. People can be incredibly tacky and think you have nothing better to do with your life.

My Mum warned me about the Madwives!

Nurses are fair game she said, but be on guard around the Madwives, they like to bring their 'work' hoe with them

Maybe she was snake-phobic (I can't be arsed to find out the proper word). People who are phobic often have irrational fears that they may meet the object of their fear in an unexpected place.

I'm terrified of snakes too so, sorry, but I'd have been reluctant to rent a room.

If I remember from psychology last year it's Ophidiophobia or something like that. Think Ophid is a latin (or suck like) work for snake as a few things to do with them are like that.

No Lois, a new P+J arrives on the back of a transporter.
