Xbox live Gold question

My lad had just joined xbox live on his one. It is registered his membership as we are downloading Worms.

But, he can't join multiplayer games on Halo. Is there a delay in the membership granting full privileges or is there something else I need to do?

How old is he? Xbox live uses age restrictions based on the DOB of the registered user .

Has he actually got Gold or just Live? IIRC Live won't do multiplayer, you have to pay for Gold.

In the settings there is a section for privacy and I think it limits multiplayer by default. You could take a look in there to see if there is anything obvious.
