HI Everyone,

Need a bit of help please - over the last few weeks I've had an intermittent issue where the car would sometimes just die at idle, usually only just after starting up and would clear and not happen again after a couple of minutes of running - this evening I went to re-start after popping in to Halfords on the way home (new wheel-nut socket :-)) and she just won't idle at all frown

She starts easily and runs fine on the throttle, but just dies if I let off the throttle - struggling to find out what to try on google, but looks like it might be the idle air control motor/valve - if I unplug this will it improve, and is cleaning/replacing easy enough?

She's a Manual 2002 LS1 SS Ute, with some mild tuning (done by Monkfish a few years ago, so definitely nothing to do with recent changes!) and runs sweet as a nut apart from this idel problem...

Cheers,

Grant

Edited to add manual and correct the typo in LS1 smile

Thanks for the reply! smile

I thought that would just make it idle faster? I've had a look and can't see anything obvious (took the cover off and didn't see any splits or breaks.

Couldn't find the control valve though - where is it? assumed it would be tee'd off the inlect tract either just before or just after the MAF?

Idle control is done via the throttle body it doesn't have a separate valve

On ye olde LS1? Separate IAC integrated into the TB methinks.

That explains why I couldn't find it smile

You were bang on - found a pipe that's quite badly split - quick wrapping with electrical tape and the idle is back fine smile

I'll post some pics in a minute, neeed to know what bit to order smile

Thanks for the help - I'll buy you a pint smile

Here's the split connector, the bit that connects the hose to the TB housing - anyone know what it's called?

And off the car (and cleaned up):

Although it's clearly not long for this world smile, a quick bodge:

Part of the PCV hose. It's part of this assembly I think, no idea if available separately. Any value in converting to LS6?

It's difficult to see would any bit of similar size hose replace it ?

Probably - I've got a box of random bits of hosing (somewhere), silicone and otherwise, I'm sure there'll some something in there that will fit - I just thought if I can buy the ptoper part for not much cash then I might as well - don't fancy paying £40 for the whole assembly though! smile
