Hi all.
I know the DVLA offer a service where (for a small fee) they'll provide you with owner details etc of a car if you have reasonable cause. Does anyone know if simply wanting to buy it is reasonable cause? I used to own it, then mini-me #1 came along and with it being a 2 seater convertible, it went. I really want it back though - its only a mk1 MX5 but it was a bit special to us.

According to the DVLA its SORN'd and has been since 2013...

Anyone have any ideas if I can find the owner?

Cheers
Dave

VOSA have a Freephone number, which I've used a couple of times and got really good advice.

I have also seen and downloaded off the DVLA website, a form which allows someone to request the information, and asks for a reason. You have nothing to loose by filling that form in and putting the true reason you want to know. They might actually tell you. I won't post a link to the form, because it was a long time ago and I'm sure you can google it.

Have you tried googling the reg plate? It can sometimes yield results...not always but worth a try. It may lead you to a forum or similar where the owner posts or has posted in the past.

Perhaps you could tell the DVLA you discovered some paperwork belonging to the car and want to forward it?

I know people on here have been given details because they need to rebuild cars which have had "misplaced" histories

Cheers all.

Tried google'ing the plate - nothing comes back.

I'll print the form (found it) and send it off. Looks like its a fiver as I'm a previous owner. Worth a go I suppose... I'm hoping its holed up in a garage, unloved but still in the same condition I sold it in (think it was early 2010 when I got rid so it was taxed for 3 years before being SORN'd).
