"A BMW driver who was caught doing 125mph on a dual carriageway in north Wales has escaped a driving ban.
Lawrence Roberts, 21, of Deganwy, Llandudno, admitted speeding on the A55 at Rhuallt, near St Asaph, at Llandudno Magistrates' Court. Chairman Brian Cossey said: "125mph, even on the A55 if there were no other traffic around, is one heck of a speed. We are giving you a chance." Roberts was fined £400 and given six penalty points.

I wonder how many accidents have been caused by people doing these sorts of speeds on empty roads? Not very many at all I suspect.

I attend lots of RTCs where people manage to lose it all by themselves.

What a bizarre comment. Probably not many at those speeds as few people drive at those speeds on the road.

Change your quote to this and your answer changes significantly.

I got stuck in traffic this morning and severely delayed because a knobber managed to lose it on a dry empty stretch of motorway and hit the central reservation due to excessive speed.

Nope.

Which is what makes it so daft it's a surprise he's not banned.

Other than it shows what a complete lottery the judicial system is.

9 years ago on the dual carriageway that connects to that one in North Wales, I was stopped doing 93, and received the same, 6 points.

I was doing 23 over the limit (sunny, dry day - road was arrow straight for a mile hence the zap at distance), and got 6 points. It seems if you are lucky, you can do 55mph over the limit and get the same outcome.

Precisely!

This is exactly why we need speed limits, because otherwise people sit in their big comfortable metal boxes thinking 'this isn't really very fast at all' whilst covering a mile every 30 seconds. rolleyes

How do you know it was excessive speed that caused the prang?
