Morning all,

Today whilst on my way back from dropping the missus at work the stability control system decided to turn itself off...I tried depressing the switch several times but it just stays off. Once home I turned the ignition off and then back on again but it's still coming up as off.

Anyone else suffered from this? If so did you find a solution for a fix?

Cheers.

Most likely a battery issue, would start there

This will almost certainly be as a result of something else. You need to get the fault codes read.

i lost abs and t/c....it was due to a broken speed sensor harness on the rear wheels.

Huff....not going well this first week of ownership. First the rapid indicators now this.

So I'm guessing I need a fault code reader? Or take it to a garage and to use there one.

VXR8, I take it?

We've had this happen twice.

Once was when we blew the engine, and were limping on 6 cylinders to Monkfish (I'm not suggesting this is your problem) and the other time was after the car had been hit, and was crabbing down the road as I limped home (you would have noticed if this was the problem).

Whilst neither of the above applies to you, it does show that the ESP will switch off for all sorts of reasons. With your brake problem as well, if your brake switch is fine, then I would also suspect the battery as the problem area.

Yes sorry it's a VXR8.

I know these are known for there temperamental electrics but wasn't quite prepared for them to all happen at once! Lol.

When you say possibly a battery issue, what should I be looking for?

First check that the terminals are tight. Then, check the voltage across the battery before you start it. You can use the engineering mode on the car for this, and it cropped up on another thread recently. I'll see if I can find it...

Hi Welcome to the site.
Mine was switching off but ABS light also came on, plugged into my mates magic box and it was the front right ABS sensor. New one ordered from MF £194+ postage installed, sorted no issues since. Touch Wood.

As my meter has gone walkabout am I right in saying I can't trust the dash meter for true voltage then? I'll double check the terminals are tight also.

I've not had any ABS related issues which others have reported though.

I'm borrowing a fault code reader tomorrow, so I'll see what that throws up.

Don't trust the gauge on top of the dash for the reading, but you can display the state of the battery before starting on the centre speedo display, in engineering mode. I can't find the thread when this last came up, but it was only a month or so ago.

Call ou your Breakdown provider and get them to read the codes, just tell them you've got warning lights on and don't want to drive the car in case it damages the car ! That's what I do ! Lol

Good thinking.

I actually just went out to see how many LEDs I needed to order to replace the dead ones on my rear indicator clusters and when I turned the ignition on the TC symbol was off again!?! Is this what they call character building....

Had traction off light, and also combination of traction and abs on both my vxr8's.
It just goes away after a few starts/jouneys.
It's done it again recently, even with a brand new battery, charge showing 98% on engineering mode.

Will give it a check with the fault code reader anyway as it's on its way but i suspect it could just be the cars way of testing me as you said.

Did you ever replace anything on either of yours chap or just knew it was a cold weather based thing?

Just went for another drive and it did eventually come back on. I entered engineering mode and checked the battery charge before and after. It was 35% before leavening and 41% when I returned. Does that sound about right? The voltage was reading 11.5V.

Sounds like the battery is dead also check the charging rate.
