Hi every1, Last week some1 reversed into my car and wrote it off, they admitted liability. when on the phone to my insurance they asked about modifications which I said "yeah the tints n the alloys but I think the alloys r actually standard" it turned out the window tints were not on my policy which I was sure they were :s
They have now told me my claim is on hold and the "underwriters" are looking into my undeclared modifications.
Has any1 had experience with this?
Would I be better saying I was unaware of the modifications as they were on the car when I bought it?
Will I get paid anyway as it wasn't my fault?
Is my insurance valid?

Any advice would be appreciated
thanks

I wouldnt worry too much. There will be a financial penalty, but from what i understand they will still pay out.
If it was a performance mod then things may be different.
Next time do the best you can to declare all mods.

Wouldn't say its a weird first post, most people turn to the internet to ask questions these days. Pistonheads is the first result on Google for 'car forum' so people will naturally come here first....

If the Insurer would not have provided cover if the modifications were declared at inception they can decline the claim, they can also decline the claim if the OP had intentionally with held the information about the modiications.

OK SO NO CURSING & NO SHORT HAND TXT WRITING rolleyes

I DO FIND IT QUITE RUDE/ARROGANT THAT SOMEONE WOULDNT HELP BECAUSE OF THIS AS IT WAS QUITE CLEARLY STATED A FEW POSTS AGO IM NEW HERE, SO THE RULES OF POSTING WERE NOT CLEAR.

IM SURE IF THEY HAD SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO SAY THEY WOULD HAVE SAID IT ANYWAY,
RATHER THAN KICK SOMEONE WHEN THEY ARE DOWN "I COULD HELP YOU, BUT IM NOT GOING TO"

This is what I am afraid of frown

I have always been under the impression insurance companies will use any excuse not to pay. This is why I have always been honest about modifications and stuff.

He does seem to work for an insurer so probably could have helped you
but gets very upset when you insult fellow members of his industry, or high ranking sailors.
It's almost like he hasn't released that insurance is a thankless task and everyone hates insurers, because no one should ever be more than satisfied with the result of an insurance claim, anyone who's pleased has been over compensated, or had low expectations from the insurer to start with.

You know what annoys people a even more than txt speak?
it's caps lock

I hate insurance you just know everything is being looked at as a way not to pay.

The questions they ask when ringing for a quote can become a little silly its all aimed at you giving the wrong information so they can shaft you when umpteen yrs down the line you do need to claim !

I think they are aimed at getting the right info. But if you lie at inception you won't recall what lie you told when you come to claim.

OP, how come you didn't know about your mods at inception but did know about them at claim time? Did you deliberately avoid telling them at inception because you feared it would increase your premium, but when you came to claim, you forgot you'd lied to them? If so, then the insurer's tactics have worked, which is good news for those of us that do disclose everything at inception.

In this case, if your insurers kick your claim out, you can claim directly from the tp so you've got lucky.

This is Pistonheads, grammar and spelling does matter here, it's what sets it apart from the Barry Boys Saxo forum and what makes it a better forum, in my opinion.

As someone else has said, if you're getting messed about by your own insurance, then give the third parties insurance company a call and see if they'll organise repairs for you. You should even be able to choose where it gets repaired.

You should be OK in respect of this claim since the other driver has admitted responsibility - you can claim directly from them.

Your issue would be that at a minimum you are going to be charged the extra for the undeclared mods.

regards the tints - are they on the front? If so they are almost certainly illegal. I'd be concerned that insurance might be cancelled - which will have a long term impact on you.
