Evening guys, my faithful mondeo of 8 years is making a sad noise. The engine whine isn't that loud if the electrics are off, it gets noticeably louder with the AC and heated windows etc. on. I've have the Alternator replaced around a year ago, so didn't think this was the issue. The noise dies off at 40mph (ish) plus but that's probably just hidden behind the road noise. I'm getting ready to sell the car in a few months so would appreciate any thoughts. (also the central locking seems to have a mind of it's own sometimes, locks when driving and only unlocks with the key)

Alternator again - increasing noise with electrical loading gives it away.

Was it replaced with brand new last year, or recon/2nd hand?

Not necessarily, it could be something else driven by the aux belt.

My little greenlaning Jimny started making a horrid noise, usually I try and fix stuff myself but this sounded too bad to wait.

Took it to a local garage and he got a stick out joined it upto a stethoscope type thing and put in on various bits around the belts, he could hear it rumbling on a tensioner smile

Not sure the description fits, but I had a Cougar V6 and it developed a loud whine which eventually got much worse when the Air Con clutch engaged.

The dealer thought the whole compressor would need replaced but I was encouraged them to check as I knew that just the A/C clutch/pulley was available and they were able to change that.

However I by the time I changed it I would have described it more as a screech than a whine
