Canon EOS M going cheap at Argos
Discussion
I bought one from Amazon just before Christmas (black friday deal which they then refunded me further on as they then dropped normal price too!) and have really been impressed with it (after upgrading to latest firmware as original shocking for AF). The kit I got has the 22mm lens (much more sensible for me than the 18-55 as I have full L-series stuff to connect if I want to), the EF adaptor, flash etc. Great deal for just over £200.
Ended up carrying it around up with the family in the Lake District than lugging my 7D and lenses!
Following just straight out of camera except bit of cropping but no other mods (yet). Pretty impressed with the unadjusted noise on the night scene ISO6400

I looked at these as well as the Fuji XF1. Thought I would check the Canon availability at Argos and they had nothing locally instore and out of stock for home delivery?? I just but the Fuji XF1 online from Currys with next day delivery to store and collecting tomorrow.
Unsure why Argos cannot home deliver unless its only available now in a few stores? I think its at £179 at the moment which is very good.

They probably have very very limited stock left in a handful of stores. Nowt available in the 6 stores local to me.
For £20 more they still have the silver version available for delivery.
Btw Just checking local cities to me for the £179 ones and the only place I can find that has them is just about every store in the Birmingham area, so if you're willing to travel out of your area a bit, you can get one.
ETA also lots around Durham, Edinburgh, Glasgow...

Nice find. Just can't justify the purchase of one sadly....
What is that "justifying the purchases" yoi speak of?

I've fancied having a go at photography for a while and with my first child on the way I've decided no better time than now so I've reserved one of these in Argos. I'm not planning on taking pictures of really fast moving objects but would the auto focus on this be up to taking pictures of the dog running about?
Not sure about frenzied dogs. I've used it to capture my son playing football successfully.
It is a really nice bit of kit and I can't see you being disappointed unless capturing moving objects is going to be its main use.
I really enjoy just sticking it in my pocket and snapping whatever I see.

Hmmmmm
Unless you master the art of prefocusing and have a pretty slow dog
you might be disappointed there.
He's a mini schnauzer so only has little legs

I'm new to all this so not sure on what is classed as a fast moving object. I was thinking a car at a track would be fast moving whereas a dog would be slow..

Though the car is faster its further away so you could pan and capture it. I reckon with the dog being closer it would be harder. I reckon capturing clear shots of an excited dog would be quite a challenge at close range with the M.
Ah yes, good point. What would you class as close range?sirbadger said:

It's not the distance that is the issue, it's the predictability of the car. You can easily anticipate where it's gonna be and prefocus. Try that with an excited schnauzer
I'm a dog photographer, a good one
and I miss many shots using a 1Dx and fast focussing L lenses. As much as I love the EOS-M I would look elsewhere if my main shooting subject would be running dogs. Dog portraits, that won't be a problem. EOS-M, especially with 20mm is very capable there.Gassing Station | Photography & Video | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
