There seems to be a double case of hard of thinking going on in Chester:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2901633/Th...

Firstly, you have a car that is on the tax and insurance databases.... How the hell can the owner not be traced in this day and age?
Secondly, why crush a perfectly good car? Why not send it to auction to recover the costs?

Maybe they found the owner but since parking it they died and they don't have any next of kin? I agree that they should probably auction it.

The grass under the bonnet signifies that it is one of BMW's latest eco-models using a renewable fuel. hehe

biggrin The new BMW eco drive: making the world a little greener every time you drive. Pot plants optional.

Ok, so it's taxed and insured. Police visit that address, RO no longer lives there, new tenant has no idea who used to live there or any forwarding address. Add to that a Polish sounding name.

Your move...

I bet if it wasn't taxed they would be able to write to the owners home address, they seem pretty quick at doing that

Why 3 parking tickets? Thats just dumb, its the same event of over staying

Why would they crush it, just because they cannot trace its owner?

How wasteful.

Why isn't it the same case as most councils where it would have been towed (sometimes within 24 hours on a short stay only bay). Owners doesn't come to collect for the specified time so goes to auction.

It'll most likely be sold to a breaker's yard or such - my local one had a couple of cars partially disassembled the other day with huge "SEIZED BY POLICE FOR NO INSURANCE" stickers on

Looks nicer than some of the cars I've been smoking around in, how would you go about claiming it? laugh

Seriously though, why not auction it and give the proceeds to a charity or community project? This country seems to have become very wasteful these days.

Wouldn't surprise me if a local busybody had done it tbh.

I walk past this a couple of times a week.

At one point it did have baked beans / pooh smeared on windscreen.

The local paper ran a story on it and interviewed a resident around there who felt it was "giving the wrong impression".

They don't appear to enforce those notices. There's a Laguna I've never seen move just round the corner. That had a notice on the windscreen briefly during winter 2013 but it's still there.

That resident says that the police won't do anything until it's vandalised.

So why not key it and slash the tyres if you want them to do something?

By the time you have taken the auction fee, replacement battery, the cost of replacement keys, (I assume they are not with the car) paying someone to get it to the auction, this all hinges on whether or not the car actually runs of course. I think you would make around £2.51 pence on a good day with the wind behind you. Chain through the windows and a Hiab on to a lorry is the only end for this car.
