Just heard from the insurance engineer. My Tuscan S can be "re-engineered " as he diplomaticaly put it or I can take the money and get another one.
Emotionally-and lets face it TVR's are all about emotional descisions- I would love to see it back together again.
Problem for me is how good is a rebuild. Any one had this done?

Sorry about your accident Steve, but glad you and passenger are ok which is what really matters. I see your car is a 2002. Have the insurers indicated how much they will cough up for a write off? Having had the car looked at, is the damage mainly cosmetic? I have seen accident damaged Tuscs where you would think no-one would walk away, but after replacing the bodywork are as good as new. If the chassis has suffered I think I would start again. Its such a powerful car I would always have nagging fears at high speeds. Due to the arrival of the new model there are a lot of low mileage beautiful 2nd hand Tuscs available at very reasonable prices. Dream Machines had a couple of gorgeous Tusc S's last time I was there.
Good luck, and keep us informed. Just a thought, how will this affect your ins premiums? Have you got protected NCB?

Take the money...
1. Deals with any resale issues
2. There's a chance your engine might have needed a rebuild at some point, assuming it hadn't already. Now you can get one that's recently been "taken care of"
3. Repairing your car would no doubt take "some time". During this time off the road any number of troublesome problems could occur through lack of use... CV bushes, other seals, etc.
4. Might be able to "reclaim" a few bits and bobs off the current car before it vanishes forever, and make a few quid.
Sorry, all a bit heartless, I know, but at the end of the day a car's just a lump of metal + plastic that costs money... getting sentimental about it will just see you out of pocket.

Hi Steve,
The insurance company have decided to write the car of today as well.
However I'm under the impression that the engineer that viewed the car is not experienced in TVRs. I have spoken to a guy in North Wales who is very experienced and he thinks that it may be worth repairing the vehicle.
I'm guttered / sad about sending the car for scrap.

Bin it, if the insurance company classify this as a cat c or d repair damage it will come up on a search, and lets face it, there are a lot of Tuscans up for sale, if I were loking for one and it was yours or an unbent one, and yours was 4k cheaper, I'd pay the exta 4k...
Sorry about your car, but you are ok...
Besides, be nice to get a new car wouldn't it????

Know how you feel Simon-but after all the good advise I think I'm going to heave a sigh and take the insurance companies money.
problem is...what to buy now?????
Mr Freefall has a sharp looking T350-the ever helpful Lady T has a very cool Tuscan 2.
Could always get an 03/04 Tuscan S series1 - I just love the nose job. Gosh..this might be fun
