Oil Pressure problem?

I bought my first TVR before Christmas, a Cosmos Blue Chimaera, so far running like a dream until wednesday.

I was driving back home down the motorway and felt a sudden 'lurch' for a second then all ok. Then when I came back into town the oil pressure seemed to drop and it idled at about 700 instead of the norm, then in the morning all ok again and it did it again yesterday in the same circumstances!?

Is this the norm or am I being an over paranoid new TVR owner!?!

OK one thing at a time.

The lurch! Were you booting it at the time and if you were did you take it around the 6000 rpm range.
If you did, then you hit the rev limiter. Not a problem as you don’t keep doing it.

Idle speed! it's not the most stable, it can vary wildly on a daily basis. Cleaning the stepper motor may stabilise it.

Oil pressure? What did the oil pressure drop to? in traffic IIRC mine idles around 30 psi and increase to about 45 when running.

No I haven't booted it yet, the weather since I bought her has been sh*te, ice, snow and rain! I was cruising about 70mph when it happened.

The oil pressure normally at idle is 30 and was this morning its just after the evening motorway run when I get back into town it idles 'bout 700 with pressure around 15, been told anything 10 or below is a warning sing something is afoot!

Hmmmm...???

Lurch at 70? haven’t come across that problem myself, could be a dirty injector, or a plug or a lead breaking down. I'd say wait and see if it happens again.

Pressure under 30? does sound low! I'd get it checked out.

It may be a bad connection or faulty earth. I.E. Your revs have reduced (Or the tacho is saying the revs have reduced) and your oil pressure indicator has also dropped, and the lurch could have been a momentarily loss of power due to said bad connection.

Hi, the old oil pressure chestnut again - eh, could i point you towards this thread (and there are others if you search under 'oil pressure' etc). Might address some of the issues.
