Boardman Team FS - £849 - any owners?

Hi Guys

Seriously thinking about getting another mountain bike after selling my last one 2 years ago due to house purchase.

Used to ride a lot in the past - BMX, street, DH, XC, bit of everything really....

I have usually found myself with a long travel full sus but this time around looking at an all rounder and have seen good reports on the Boardman Team FS.

Halfords are currently offering an extra 15% off until Wednesday next week so might take advantage of that offer.

Just wondered if anyone has one or has any advice to offer in general. Will be using at trail centres and local XC routes. Not bothered about Halfords service or build as I can spanner myself so will give the bike a full once over after delivery to double check everything.

I brought a boardman team 650b hard tail in July 14 as I wanted an xc bike that wasn't too expensive. I viewed specialized, trek, whyte and cannondale before settling on the boardman. So far so good, reasonable parts used and a good basis to upgrade in future. Only thing I changed after two rides was the seat which was too uncomfortable but once swapped with a WTB one it is now very comfortable.

I bought a Boardman MX comp last year. It's a pretty impressive bike for the money. I got it for about 400 quid after the Halfords 25% off and BC discount. It's good on trails, acceptable on the road, and can do the rough stuff quite well too. It's got some nice components as standard as well.

bought a pro carbon HT mid last year
simply cannot be beaten on spec / price / handling IMHO
when it was nicked, the bike replacement company couldn't touch it with a replacement - nearest they could offer was 400 more
very nicely finished - and well built by Halfords (believe it or not !)

I have a FS Team 650b, which I picked up secondhand a few weeks back. It's a cracking bike, and a big upgrade on my GT XCR. Probably going to upgrade pedals and brakes, as i'm not a fan of Avid brakes, but it should serve me well over the next few years.

Take out the british cycling membership for £20 and get a further 10% ,my mate has the Boardman and thinks its great... hth

I was in Half earlier and the signs specifically said that it couldn't be combined with other offers. Yet the BC card says it can be combined with other offers. Place your bets...

I've bought four bikes, as well as piles of other stuff using the BC discount and one of the regular 10% off everything weekends.

After I tried to stack the BC discount, 10% off everything and 10% off the 2013 Boardman model range offers, the local store manager though I was taking the proverbial.

A quick call to head office confirmed the BC discount stacks on top of everything else.
Got a further discount for my CX being an ex display with a small scratch on it too :-)

Never had an issue. Reserve online to collect in store using the online offer, then tell them you've a BC card (might have to show it) and there's a barcode in the book by the till for them to scan.

Simples :-)

I have last years Team FS (ie, the model with 26" wheels). Its my first full-sus bike, and only my 3rd mountain bike, but loved it immediately. For the money I think its unbeatable (as with most boardmans).
Must have done about a 1000 miles on it so its had these upgrades:

Replaced alloy handlebar with Eaton Haven carbon bars (£75 off ebay)
Replaced Avid brakes with Shimano SLX. The avids will do to begin with, but as soon as you have any trouble just replace them (£100)
The bottom bracket was getting crunchy, so went to swap in another standard screw-in one - nope - the FSA bottom bracket is about 1mm wider than a standard one, to accommodate the FSA crank that came with the bike. Of course their BB's are about 4 x the cost of a normal Shimano BB! So I thought "sod it" and bought an XT crank & BB for about £100 (lighter too)

Have since got another hardtail (Boardman Pro Carbon) which I use for my fledging racing career, but my F/S is still the one I use for fun rides with mates where ultimate speed isn't the objective. I'd love to upgrade to this years 650b version but cant justify it yet.

I also bought my CX by stacking all the discounts. But those 10% off weekends didn't specify no other discounts. I'm just saying that is worth checking.
