Hi everyone - i'm trying to take our breakdown cover. I'm just after a cheap, simple roadside cover, but both RAC and AA, have, buried in their Ts and Cs, that on the cheaper policy, they don't cover a car thats 10 years old,. Ageism! Don't really want to stump up for a full fat policy that I don't really need.

Was wondering what companies any of you guys use for your cover?

Included "Free" with my insurance. I noticed the LLoyds are promoting an account at the moment which gives "free" AA cover plus travel insurance and mobile phone cover etc. for £12 a month, this might include cars over 10 years old but haven't looked, could be worthwhile if you need the other things included.

Have mine through Autoaid, based in Brentwood IIRC. It's about £35 pa, covers any vehicle I'm using & does not have age restrictions. Only used once on what was then an 11 year old Astra.

It's insurance based so if you use it you pay the rescuer, in my case local recovery company, then send their invoice to Autoaid & they reimburse you.

Try ADAC the German equivalent to our AA, in addition to getting U.K. cover (which I believe is outsourced to the A.A.)you get trans europe breakdown, and I believe there is no age clause.

With the AA that's only a clause on the vehicle based policy. Try personal cover with them as it then covers you in any vehicle upto 3.5tonnes. Should only be a pound or two more.

I know the feeling OP. My girlfriend has recently passed her driving test & was looking for cover. Her 2002 Ford Fiesta is not allowed just basic cover & I already have personal cover. Just got renewal for me through for £183.99!! Phoned up to cancel & enquire about a joint personal cover & it's only £154.99 for the both of us.

Personal cover is probably the way to go! smile

Autoaid. Awesome service. Super cheap too. £39 for you and mrs included I think - for any car you own.

Recovered my 1997 Audi twice in last couple of years. Zero hassle.

Personal membership (as opposed to single vehicle cover) with the AA has no vehicle age limits.

This, all 3 of of our cars are over 10 years old. We also get Breakdown Repair Cover for £2500 for 5 claims on all three which we pay for.
