Hi there,

I am about to purchase two tyres for a SEAT Leon FR TDI which is currently fitted with 225/45/R17 91W (Standard Load) tyres.

I am looking to get Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres but can only seem to get 91Y load ratings.

I will be replacing the tyres as a pair.

I was wondering if a Y Load rating instead of a W Load rating would be okay?

When the new tyres are fitted, the front tyres would be W Load rating and the (new) rear tyres would be Y Load rating.

Thanks in advance, smile

Yes, it'll be fine smile

Edit: NB those are speed ratings, not load ratings

That is good to hear, I am guessing it is fine in terms of car insurance too? And oh yeah, silly me! smile

Your insurance company won't be concerned.

Even if you ran a lower speed rating (as is often the case when changing to winter tyres) it would still be above that which you could achieve legally on public roads in the UK.

I can't remember the speed ratings, BUT remember some of the VAG GROUP fit the lowest speed/ etc rated tyres as standard to lower spec cars. I know of a Skoda Fabia 1.4TDi with factory fit tyres which were of a lower rating than the possible top maintainable speed .

i have the same car and got a set of eagle f1s as well. i made a mistake when ordering them and got the lower rated tyre, got them fitted and never had a problem. the tyre with the greater rating was actually £4 a tyre cheaper as well.

I very much doubt that, I suspect it was H rated tyres which are much higher than you'd expect, they fit in between U and V
