My mrs parked her car in Edinburgh, she paid for a ticket and stuck it to her window.

On returning back to her car, she noticed a parking charge on her window and her ticket had fallen onto the floor face up. On looking in the car you could still see it.

The original sticky bit was still on the window but due to the wind it blew the purchased ticket off.

She's looking to appeal it, what's the likely outcome?

Cheers

I don't know what they're like in Edinburgh, but I've had similar south of the border with Local Authorities and they've cancelled the charge.

I bet it states that the ticket needs to be displayed properly for it to be valid, She cannot blame the wind unless she left the windows open as she should have checked it was on display before she walked away from the car:

Take them to trading standards because the glue on the ticket was not fit for sale.

Oh, I dunno. Having a go at getting it cancelled certainly would be showing at least a modicum of defiance.

I got one in Chiswick yesterday...I left the ticket on the dashboard and it was clearly visible. I've definitely appealed defiantly, as my Mrs did the same in Richmond recently and the charge was dropped.

I had a ticket fall off a window before too, and lost that appeal...

Happened to my mother too, parked in a P&D car park, ticket fell off/got blown around when closing the door or whatever but she received an invoice for failing to display a ticket. She wrote back with a photograph of the ticket she'd bought and part of the receipt of the shop she'd been visiting with the date and time highlighted. Ticket was cancelled.

ETA - not sure who owns the car park but it's the main parking area next to the medium-sized supermarket she was in.

Used to be a way round a ticket, just ask someone leaving for their ticket, take it to the council offices, have a rant. Parking fine cancelled. Did it once in reading as a student, my existing ticket had run out by about 10 mins.

This is why traffic wardens have cameras these days to prove it wasn't on display.

Chiswick. There like hawks and defiantly on the look out for parking naughtie's. I could of parked somewhere else but I was afraid it would get nicked so I wanted to keep my scooter in view as I only brought it yesterday. Still got a bloody ticket though. Defiantly appeal, you've got nothing to loose, your not the only one.

I think that's just about covered the classics?

Surely it can't be that easy to get the ticket cancelled, unless it has the reg and time stamped on it. Otherwise people would not bother buying one and just place an old ticket upside down on the seat, floor or dashboard idea

Edinburgh? No chance of getting off! And saying the glue isn't adequate doesn't work. In 20 years of using Edinburgh ticket's none has ever, ever come unstuck - even on a damp windscreen.

And the Rules & Regs state that the ticket must be clearly displayed.

If you manage to get off with it, take an extra line on your Lottery ticket as it'll sure be your luckiest week!

Don't forget that Edinburgh is famous for ticketing Ambulances, Fire Engines, Police cars - all on emergency calls and with blue lights still active - and they have ticketed hearses while the coffin was being loaded! If you stand still and have roller skates on, the Blue Meanies will ticket you!

I've held back from commenting because it's Edinburgh and things are different in Scotland. References to Alton/Bury/Chiswick/Droitwich/Ely, etc are pretty much pointless.
