Now it will not catch and start

Fuel pump priming OK
Cranking really strongly
Almost gets there but not quite

I may have flooded it by trying so will leave it until tomorrow but is there anything else to look at / try

thanks

Hold the accelarator completely down whilst cranking (may take over a minute)

assuming you have all the HT leads on in the correct order etc ?

Pretty sure about the HT leads but will double check

I did give it some gas while cranking which is why I think it could be flooded.
Also I was a bit of a muppet and forgot to plug the king lead into the coil the first time I cranked it over.

Thanks - all suggestions welcome

New set of plugs, I'd bet it fires first time.
It's worth asking, what made you change the dizzy cap ect..?

Plugs were changed not so long ago during a service.

It has been failing to catch without giving it some gas for a while now so thought it might be a weak spark. Spark is probably enough after a few seconds running when everything is hot but not from cold.
In 10+ years ownership they have never been changed so for the fairly minimal cost (in TVR ownership terms) it was worth a try. The pegs on the underside of the cap did look a bit worn and the end of the arm was slightly rounded

Was it working before the parts were changed? Sorry if it is a daft question but it is unclear if you were trying to resolve a fault or just servicing.

You may need to swap the parts back 1 by 1.

The ign amp normally fails as a result of heat but of course may have just failed, but my money is on something else.

May be immobiliser.

But before your starting problems and now flooding it? I'd think they're coaked up, and now covered in petrol.

Just been out and tried it.

Turned key - fired up instantly.
Switched off and waited a few seconds before trying again.
Turned key - fired up instantly.

So looks like it was just flooded.

Moral of this story - remember to also reconnect the king lead before cranking the engine.

Should have had a pony on it with Phillpot even at 4 to 3 on !

I can lend you a 14:2 Appaloosa gelding if he offers again. Only needs feeding twice a day and mucking out once, plus an acre of lawn to hoover........
