Subarus are trusty machines!
Had the use of a Subaru Legacy Outback throughout my Alaskan Winter.
This was brand new, but it was incredible in the snow.
I imagine the forester + Impreza would be just as competent.
In fact if I had to choose a car for everything, I think it would be a Legacy Outback. Or a Landcruiser..

Of those 3 it would be the Forester for me, although I think that one might be slightly overpriced by the seller to take advantage of the winter car brigade.
As an alternative view, 4wd isn't the answer for most of the UK winter unless you live very rural, something like a Fiat Panda/Ford KA etc with skinny little tyres that naturally work well in snow. My little KA could do things it had no right to do when it snowed, similarly my old Micra was the same and I used to go hunting for the worst road possible with it and it never got stuck once - all on cheap summer tyres.

Haven't seen any proper snow since 2011 up here! There have been a few flurrys and a couple of heavy over nighters but nothing too bad.
All seasons are on my car, they work really well for the couple of times we have had some.
However I do like the idea of a winter car. A6 Allroad or a Legacy Outback would do fine I reckon

Without any doubt, the Forester. Make sure the cambelt, pulleys and water pump have been replaced at this mileage. Foresters can complete stellar mileages, a chap in the US has nearly completed 500,000 miles on the same original 2.0 n/a engine. Ensure good servicing and regular oil changes. Test drive a few, then buy the best available. Good luck...these are the types of contenders
